19 Things I've Learnt Whilst Being 19

1. Letting go of friendships. This has been tough for me this year but one sided friendships are never a winner.
2. In saying my last point, I have also learnt to appreciate the friends that I do have SO much more.
3. New York is my favourite place on earth: fact. Is there anything else really to say? I just bloody love it.
4. Dairy has such a huge impact on my health. I made a really conscious effort this year to cut out dairy and have seen so many health improvements. There are also so many amazing vegan snacks that I have discovered since going dairy free for 2 months and I have finally found a non-dairy milk that i luuuuv. Koko milk you have my heart <3
5. N e v e r, ever take your health for granted again.
6. Putting yourself first is so important, whether this is in friendships, a relationship or just general life. You are in charge of your own happiness.
7. Learning to embrace being out of your comfort zone. Pushing myself has enabled me to meet so many amazing new people that I never would've met had I not pushed myself out of my lil zone of safety.
8. University life is not always plain sailing. Living with 11 strangers and starting a new course was never going to be easy but I have no regrets. I'm so proud of how I've handled some difficult situations that I found myself in at uni this year and I feel like a much stronger person for it.
9. Living for the little things is so important.
10. Writing is my passion. 2018 became the year that I got my first piece of commissioned writing published onto a big platform and if that hasn't inspired me to write, then I'm pretty damn sure nothing else will.
11. Change is so hard, and so scary, but always worth it.
12. I love gin - who knew!?
13. Often my expectations of people are too high, whereby I put them on a pedestal. People are not perfect, and I'm starting to realise that our imperfections make us human and that's ok.
14. Saying no is so important. I've always been a people pleaser, but in my 19th year, I've really learnt to say no to things I don't want to do and to stand up for myself more.
15. Never apologise for who you are.
16. You don't need to rely on someone else for your own happiness. This past year, I've really began to become a independent gal who is v able to stand on my own two feet.
17. Being nice to people is so important (even if they perhaps don't deserve it) because like they say, kill 'em with kindness.
18. Checking up on your pals is so crucial. Sometimes you don't know the struggles people are going through, and dropping a text to check in can make the world of difference.
19. Finally, the biggest lesson I've learnt this year has been to care less about the opinion of others. This is still something that I'm working on but I've definitely made progress with this. Live your life for you and who cares what people think?

I hold my hands up, I've been a terrible blogger this year. Sometimes life gets in the way and throws you some curveballs that you never anticipated happening. A lot has changed in the 2 years since I wrote my '17 things I've learnt whilst being 17' post... and the past year has been one of the hardest yet. However, in spite of this, I've learnt some pretty good life lessons along the way. Leaving my teen years behind feels so surreal but here's to the next decade of my life!! I can't wait to see what's in store.
